Teaching in the senior division (Grades 11 + 12)

At Redeemer, we offer two teaching divisions as part of your B.Ed. degree: Primary/Junior (K-6) and Junior/Intermediate (4-10). For those who intend to teach in the senior division (Grades 11 and 12) after Redeemer, common practice is to earn your B.Ed. degree in the Junior/Intermediate division and following graduation and earning your OCT certification, you can take an Additional Qualifications (AQ) course that will upgrade your OCT designation.

学生们 wishing to teach French should enroll for EDU-329 after passing the oral and written exams in the summer prior to beginning the fall program.

学生们 wishing to teach Kindergarten should take the course EDU-334 in their second year of the program, prior to attaining a Kindergarten practicum.

Program graduates are awarded a Bachelor of 教育. As our program is accredited by the Ontario College of Teachers graduates also apply to become Ontario Certified Teachers. With this professional designation, graduates are welcome to teach in local, national and international educational settings.

Candidates will have the opportunity for practice in various settings including public, separate Catholic, independent religious, independent non-religious, First Nations, and international schools. You will spend a minimum of 110 days of practice teaching in at least four different school settings, in at least two different grade divisions (Grades K-3 Primary, 4-6 Junior, and 7-10 Intermediate), working with experienced associate teachers—each an Ontario Certified Teacher—and 学院 associates in classroom settings.

Redeemer is committed to helping its graduates find meaningful employment. Of the B.Ed. class that graduated in May 2017, 91% are employed in teaching or teaching-related positions (as of November 2017).
